Does it work in Windows? What PC is it? Many PCI sound cards don't work on never gear. Also you are mixing DOS and Windows games which is especially tricky for a beginner.

Does the TV have an aspect ratio setting at all? What about through HDMI? Because if it does, you can go with a AGP platform instead (Super Scoket 7) and use a DVI AGP card. I do this for capturing VGA for my YouTube Videos.

The CD-Audio and PC speaker cables will increase the noise a lot. I now mix the CD-Audio signal externally through a mixer to have a cleaner signal. Mute all inputs that aren't needed. Newer ODD drives have trouble playing Audio CD tracks. So I recommend an older IDE drive that has a headphone port at the front. They seem to be most compatible. I have newer IDE drives with firmware that doesn't support Audio CD tracks anymore. Same goes for SATA drives. I like the AWE64 a lot. …

AWE is a solid choice. The other ones are too specialised and only supported by a range of games. With the AWE every game is supported and the card is very compatible. Everything just works 😀 GUS is great for demos and tracker based games. Roland for older DOS games from Sierra, Lucasarts, Origin …

No as it has a stuffed vibrato, is noisier because of having 2 PCBs, doesn't have a MIDI signal light (just an AUDIO one) and isn't 100% compatible with games utilizing the MT-32 (Old).
