Try a cycle setting of 10000. This works well for me for older adventure games.

Try another PCI slot. Also does the VOODOO show up at boot up under devices? There is quick list with IRQ. I believe the Voodoo shows up as Multimedia device.

@Mau1wurf1977, thanks! :) my only issue is that the AWE 64 Gold's volume is really low in dos. Have to turn my speakers all the way up to hear sound in dos games. First thought was "easy fix, I'll just use mixerset" hmmm no mixerset in the driver directory, next thought was "ok I'll use diagnose" …

I once had a CRT blow up on me when I did an intern-ship. I think this traumatized me and old CRTs freak me out a bit. They make strange noises and can blow up at any time 🤣 I do not miss them at all...

Descent 2 also sounds very good on the AWE. I think that card does well with electronic music genres in general.

I find this tool useless for benchmarking. Supposedly slow computers are race horses in other benchmarks. Stick to 3dbench2, Doom, PCPBENCH and Quake.

Codename Iceman... Has some really nice MT-32 tunes, but the game itself. What a disappointment. The first part is classic Sierra, but... Don't want to spoil anything...

Vortex 2 is a great card it seems! Had zero issue with any of the games I tried. Drivers are also nice and compact and you don't need an installation CD, just the drivers.
