486 have a ton of jumpers. They also need BIOS support for exotic brands. The CPU model / brand should be in the user manual with jumper settings for full support.

MS-DOS 6.22 installation You might find this handy 😀 It is almost exactly for MS-DOS 7.1. Just a different boot disk and there are files on a RAM drive to be copied. My ZIP archive works just like with MS-DOS 6.22.

All my gear works with my four way KVM. It's a cheap one from eBay, blue transparent plastic and auto switching with a button on it. It also beeps and draws power from the PS/2 port.

I personally never liked OEM systems,all those proprietary motherboards,lack of advanced bios settings etc. True, but is this really such a big deal? On the plus side are excellent stability and the lack of options are good for beginners. Also on 486 machines you usually always get PS/2 mouse and …

I have played around with MS-DOS 6.22 and 7.1 for an extensive period and in terms of compatibility I didn't encounter a game that or benchmark or utility that gave issues. So apart from some older scrolling games it's a mint card? The signal quality is meant to be really good. Might get one as well. Although I'm very with my Geforce and S3 cards. EDIT: What about later Matrox cards?
