Any ATX SS7 board will work a decent Time-Machine project 😀 There is a MSI and an IWILL from eBay Germany with international shipping. Asus, DFI also made good boards.

IMO there is no need as Windows 95 has MS-DOS 7 which is great. BUT you need to know what you are doing as things can become confusing between DOS and Windows.

For me a 486 is really for DOS only. Any VLB card should do. A 486 won't enough performance for 3D/S-VGA games anyway. For Windows you are much better of with a PCI or AGP based system like a Socket 7 Pentium or that Slot 1 motherboard you have. You really need to think about what it is you want to …

I can confirm all this valuable information! If you have a motherboard with ACPI (which used that cascaded IRQ2/9), some interface cards (especially PCI SATA controllers) will cause issues with Gateway. The MM401 works with 99% of games, but has issues with the "hard cases" that probe for IRQ. …

I use CF cards for my 386 and 486 gear. The IDE to CF adapters are dirt cheap. But do buy 5 or so because sometimes 1 or 2 are DOA :) I have various CF cards, ranging from 2 to 32GB and various brands. The old boards have BIOS limitations so I use a single 500MB FAT16 partition and that works …

Very nice, thanks for sharing! I must say I'm positively surprised by how well these 386 parts work. Very few jumpers, not much to adjust wrong in the BIOS, auto detecting of HDD works well and everything seems stable as well. Very pleased 😀

Had memtest running overnight and doom since this morning and no issues. I tried an OAK video card and it's very slow 😀 Can be used to slow down a machine that's a bit too fast if needed.

True. And even Doom IMO is not a game you would play on a 386. But I guess there are no other games with such a built in testing capability.
