Super Socket 7 doesn't take a Pentium 2 😀 It takes CPUs such as the Pentium 166, Pentium MMX 233, AMD K6-2 or AMD K6-3+. You are invited to do your own tests and arrive at the same conclusions I did 🤣

What I did was ditch all the cases and have the boards, cards and everything bagged and tagged. Then I pull out whatever I need and play with it on my "test-bench".

L1, as referred in the BIOS, is CPU or on-die cache. L2 is external, depending on the CPU sometimes L3 cache. If you disable L1 cache, ALL the CPU or on-die cache is disabled and that's it. On my main desktop (i7, 8GB, SSD, GTX660) I have a Sound Blaster Z, Shure SHR1440 into the headphone port and Logitech z623 on the desk. The software has a switch to select between speakers and headphones. Virtual surround works really well and gives me an edge in games such as BF4 😀

And once again, the Stereo myth lives on... This issue ONLY affects digital speech. NOT FM. There aren't many games that do NOT support SB16 AND have Stereo speech on a Sound Blaster Pro. It's a non issue...

IMO you are playing way too "new" games on this machine. Easy of of use and excellent DOS compatibility is the strength of Socket 7. Even Quake 2 I wouldn't play on this machine but move to a Slot 1 BX440 PC.
