Exactly. You can mod the PSU with a voltage regulator, but it's not necessary. In the BIOS can put the sensor to ignore? If not, just ignore it 😀

Yup, I know this board pretty well. I've even modified it to accept 1024 KB of cache. But this particular board already has the TAG bit set correctly. There is still a good chance the RTC will fix your issues. I noticed this board is fairly particular with having a RTC with a working battery. …

Mau1wurf1977, what version 8433 is that motherboard? Probably a v1 or v2 if the RTC is soldered. Some v3's had RTC sockets, some did not. I think all v3.1's had RTC sockets. If you have calipers, could you measure the height of the chip you just removed? I might end up replacing the battery socket with a top-loaded model due to space constraints (jumpers, other chips & co around the DS12887s) Using a ruler I measured 9mm! I think a top loaded option would be a good …

I like Dopefish 😀 You will enjoy that machine. With caches disabled it performs like a 386 and at full speed you can play Doom and Descent without any dramas. My favourite soundcard combination is the AWE64Gold + SoftMPU + MT-32/CM-32L + Sound Canvas 😀

Got a few Dallas replacements today. Can the battery voltage level be measured from the pins? Or is opening them up the only way. Unfortunately I haven't got the sockets yet, so I will wait for these first.

Yea I remember muting the inputs and it did not reduce the hiss. Some games support FM Stereo with the PAS16, like Space Quest 4, but only mono FM on a SB Pro or SB 16. But there is always the mighty MT-32 putting such "improvements" into perspective.

AFAIK the PAS16 also requires -5V. Without it I got "super fast" speech in many games. I'm sure I tested this with an old AT PSU and a new ATX>AT adapter and that was what I found. The PAS16 is very well shielded but my card has a constant hiss that I couldn't get rid off. But certainly no "hearing …

That space shooting montage so reminds me of working with Construct 2. The main difference is that you actually build the entire game in Construct 2 right there and then, hit the play button and your game comes to motion. Shame such tools will never make be a good pixel artist 🤣

Puppy is one of these live CDs. You boot from the CD and there was a utility to display these flags / bits. But it was years ago and the solution to my CF cards not booting was running FDISK/MBR. Had to do the same with pretty much every new CF card I got.

Now my memory is fading, but I do remember using puppy linux to take a look at this flag for removable drive. I believe it also allowed changing it. But I don't remember details as all my CF cards and micro drives work fine. The micro drives are very slow however.
