Your requirements are too restrictive 😀 You are broke, have a slow computer and your audio is miss-configured (buzzing). Not sure how we can help you to be honest. What are you trying to record?

The main issue with this for me is the need for a keyboard. It doesn't lend itself to playing on the TV on the couch.

I also really like the Sound Blaster Pro 2 :) My audio mixer allows boosting the volume beyond 0dB. The volume settings should stick in the game, but some games manually set the mixer again. Wing Commander 2 might be such a game. Generally though I don't change the default settings. Another quiet …

Yup that's it pretty much. To cover all you bases I would get: - Sound Blaster Pro 2 - MT-32 (Old) - CM-32L - SC-55 Not cheap to get all the parts, but once you're done you have everything you need.

The midiman MM401 is an awesome MIDI card! Quite a good price you got as well. Makes sure you set the MIDI port of your Sound Blaster to 300 so that they don't conflict with each other.

Now I am not an expert but I believe the 1200 is the way to go. I don't know what it's called but there is software that runs floppy images from a CF card or something like that. So you have 1000s of games on your machine 😀

The challenge with graphics is that we have reached such a level that little improvements have a very high computational cost. The difference between high and Ultra is barely noticeable but can cut frames in half.

Yea PCI cards aren't the best for DOS games. ISA is best. Now Sam and Max is one of the newer Lucasarts adventures, so chances are that it might work. For pure DOS you will need to load the DOS drivers yourself. You get them by installing the Live! drivers from the CD. Configure games with Sound …
