Most BIOS have a Virus protect option, which write protects that area of your HDD. My SS7 boards don't like CF cards on the primary controller. Get random read errors (press retry and it's all good). Secondary controller and it's all flawless...

Bootable is not an issue. 3dbench, speedsys and sysinfo should easily fit on a floppy. PC Player bench might be pushing it, but haven't tried yet. That would be awesome! What benchmarks could we add? That Russian benchmark is a given, maybe Norton SI 8.0 could be used and also the PC Player Bench in VGA mode (SVGA scores are too low on a lot of machines)?

That's good to hear! 1920 x 1200 LCDs should be available for quite some time. There are also 1600 x 1200 LCDs, and another alternative are CRTs that can display 1600 x 1200...

The AWE64 doesn't have a Yamaha OPL chip, so that's probably what you are hearing. I think it sounds rawer, not quite as smooth, but it's totally subjective of course. I also know people who prefer the clone chip over Yamaha... As for the different models of AWE32, I have no idea. I don't have a …

Pop in an AWE64. All the settings can stay the same. You should hear a difference right away. I guess not all AWE cards are wired the same way so to speak?

Interesting that only Direct3D does this right. How come it isn't part of the standard build? Does your 24" LCD have an option for Letterboxing 4:3 signals? If so, what happens if you supply it a real 320 x 200 signal? E.g. boot from a floppy and run Prince of Persia. That would be interesting to …

RG100, also worth trying an AWE64. I know it's not Yamaha OPL3, but when you initialise the card, it shows you the chorus and reverb settings (look like a bar), so I'm confident that it should work...
