Oh boy this is fascinating. It seems that with the TNT things began to shift the Nvidia. Nvidia's decision to manufacture cards themselves (they bought STB) didn't help and other manufacturer's pushed and promoted Nvidia boards. The lack of 23bit colour is also very interesting. Yea PnP cards are fine. When you run the SBBASIC installer, it will pick up if the card is PnP and ask for the directory where CTCM is located. Both packages are on the creative support site (latest version). IMO you got to hand it to Creative, because it works really well and it's totally user …

Nice! My SB Pro 2.0 has a Philips controller. The connector is really tiny and for a long time I though that card doesn't have a CD controller. But one day I noticed that huge chip on the card and did some research. Only a few Philips (double speed I think) drives work with that controller...

DOS SVGA is very demanding, because there is no 3D acceleration involved. IF the game supports 3D acceleration (e.g. though a patch like Tomb Raider or other games), you get great SVGA performance on most Pentiums and higher. However soon after that everything went for W98 (most on VOGONS use W98SE) …

Well for Duke3D in SVGA you would need a very fast Pentium 3. I don't believe Duke3D supports any 3D cards. Quake I believe has support for 3D cards though. A 3DFX Voodoo would likely be supported. OT but I find it funny that you are playing Quake and SVGA Duke 3D, because when you came here you …

AFAIK Nvidia cards are awesome for DOS. I have a Geforce MX440 in my Socket 7 machine and it's fine. Regarding the 3D cards, no idea mate. I'm a DOS only guy at this point in time...
