I always sold my stuff, either via eBay or classifieds (before eBay was around). Mostly because I needed the money for the next build, but also because I move a lot and I don't like to collect / accumulate to much stuff.

Once windows took off things became more interesting. RAW speed didn't matter as much as "Windows acceleration" features. Though when I sold my ISA ET4000 to a school friend, he told me how much better it was under Windows 3.1 LOL There was German computer magazine which did DOS video throughput …

Back in my ISA 386 days the choice of video card did matter. My OAK was a dog and I later got an ISA ET4000 and the difference was very noticeable. My next machine was VLB based and I made sure I got a good card. I went with a VLB ET4000 which totally killed for DOS gaming performance! Next machine …

Not sure about an Athlon XP (Does it even have a BIOS option for this?), but any Pentium / Socket 7 machine should be fine. PII and PIII it's a different story, you get a 286 / 386SX at the most... If the SCC-1 is cheaper, just go with that! Sound Blaster MIDI ports aren't 100% MPU401 compatible. Games like Wing Commander won't work.

That should work seeing the "hanging note bug" manifest itself when music and digital sound effects are played at the same time. You would need to set the SB16 to something other than the AWE. e.g. AWE would be 220/5/1/5/300 and the SB16 what ever settings are available, but set the MIDI port to 330 …

SB Pro 2.0 is all you need for starters. For Roland stuff, either a MPU401 ISA card or SCC-1 (has the MPU401 built in). I prefer external modules as you can use them with DOSBox and a USB Midi cable.
