Re: Quake and 386...

Well, I'm convinced it is fake. I contacted the uploader of that video, and politely asked him how did he get it to run in 4bit color, and that I needed help to do the same. He replied shortly, and told me that he didn't do anything. The game just started like that, and he has no idea how can I …

Re: Quake and 386...

I've just set up a working 386 using parts I've got easy access to(my regular 386 pc is locked at the basement because of the lack of space). I have a 386dx/40 cpu, ULSI 387/40, a 512kb svga card, and 5 MB RAM. I tried to run Quake, and it won't start. The reason is that it needs more memory.... …

Re: 386DX40 vs 486SX33

in PC Emulation
I remember back in 1993-94 when I had a 386dx/40 (actually the same board thar dirkmirk has right now), 4MB RAM and one very simple HMC 256kb svga card. I used to play Doom2 and Morkal Kombat 2. I thought they played fine on my 386, but it was just me being used to that. Later I saw my friend's 486/ …

Re: Gateway P75

About a year ago, I'd been experimenting using a P75. If I remember correctly, it was able to run up to 133MHz, with no problems. Then sometime I accidentally placed it on a board, which was set for a 233MMX, without a heatsink just for a few seconds, and a burning smell came. But it still works …

Re: what is your computer "plan"

in Milliways
When I started collecting retro pcs, almost 2 years ago, in the beginning I planned on getting identical systems to those I used to own, since 1991 when I got my first pc. So that would be a 286/16, a 386/40, a pentium and a pentium 3. Meanwhile, I was lucky enough to acquire lots of parts and cases …

Re: ET4000AX 1024x768x256 on TFT

in PC Emulation
It has happened to me also. Maybe it has to do something about the refresh rate supported by the monitor. Try switching to 60Hz while you have the CRT monitor connected, and then try the TFT. How much memory does the ET4000AX has?

Re: Help with 386DX-40 & 386 mobo

in PC Emulation
Oh, and about the battery, I would suggest to use a battery holder for 3 AAs. That way you can change them in an easy way when needed. I think you have to connect it to the header next to the CMOS chip. Pin 1 should be positive and pin 4 negative.
