yeap. VGA is EGA and CGA compatible. Any VGA card is going to work probably fine with an LCD monitor.

It might be obvious, but are you sure that the disk you're trying to access/format is a 360kb and not a 1.2mb one?

I once had a similar problem with a board. I can't remember which one it was at the moment... It was really strange.It turned out there was some kind of conflict with the cache memory. Whenever I turned it off, the floppy would work fine. I replaced the cache chips, and then had no problem at all.

Try something else. 99% of the cases that a board originally seamed dead, and afterwards it started working ok, was doing so because of the cmos clear jumper. If it's in the wrong position, some boards don't work at all.

I think that connection should work with just one cable to the speaker header on the board. At least it works that way on my 286. However, as people mentioned, polarity does matter.
