Those are professional resellers - having a totally different target audience (see warranty). You can find virtually almost any old hardware that way.

No it's not safe - as easy as that. Finding someone with an appropriate programmer would be your best bet. Also please link the other thread ... EPROMs rarely go totally bad (but can suffer from memory loss after some time). Edit: Eurgh ... upgrading your BIOS seems pointless in regard to your issue …

Well ... the hard way also means ideal solution and free SIMM slots included with the boards 😉 So I guess in the end it will be worth the wait.

That would require the same amount of re-routing and might actually cause the SIMM to intersect with the side of the case in some configurations. I'm afraid there is no easy way - but I'll get back onto that issue soonish.

those would work just as well as straight slots without needing to try them out. BUT those are virtually impossible to get at a decent price/ammount. The 90° slots are $2 per piece for me, while the 22° ones would be around $10. I guess it's more of a "you've challenged me? I'll show you" thing ... …

Well ... there's some partially bad news. Currently the prototype is being delayed as the 90° SIMM slot would cause SIMM sticks to intersect and lie on the InterWave (hooray for paper prototypes once again). Something that can be "hotfixed" by either using smaller than usual or one-sided sticks ... …

The GUS also had it's niche with the demoscene - with some productions exclusively supporting said cards. Which pretty much is the perfect reason why I care about the cards. If you're just into gaming and/or MIDI better go with a SoundBlaster or a Roland card.

As a VERY quick and dirty alternative, you could probably use PS/2 jacks (6-pin mini-DIM) with AT to PS/2 keyboard adapter cables to get you the DIN-5 jacks. But no backplanes for both jacks. Seeing both layers of the card combined ... I'd definitely change the way the load for the crystal is realized. It seems to rely on parasitic capacity of the signal lines (see those "snailhouse"-style traces) instead of proper capacitors. It might possibly/probably work, but isn't exactly a good …

Last 2 numbers usually indicate the maximum frequency in Zilog (co-)processors. So the datasheet you have is very likely to be the correct one. The probably changed the Z8 -> Z08 to avoid confusion later on when the Z80 became more widespread.

90° Angle adapters are $2 if you know where to look. One might have to change the drills for the plastic notches in the design of the SIMMCon tho.

With fuses that blow once you don't renew your subscription - requiring you to send in the card to have a new black box thingy fitted (it comes in a 200 ball BGA package - virtually impossible to solder without $1000+ tools)!
