The skirt has been lifted (as Dave Jones would say) Worked out quite well, from what I've seen no pads have been damaged - so the card can still be restored (just looks messy because I didn't clean up the old solder yet).

It's not a sad sight ... it's vintage. On a serious note ... looks like it's rust on some of the pins, even if the PCB might still be good, I doubt the card could be saved without major efforts (some pins on the QFP chips seem to be broken ... gotta be fun dremeling up those packages and attaching …

I like the donor bracket idea better ... those can usually be obtained for cheap and cause me virtually no additional work. Drilling out blank brackets would be something every reciever of a card would have to do it own their own.

I always considered Carmageddon to be quite demanding. Also Screamer 2 in software mode ... never ran at a "full" framerate with up to 700MHz.

What do you think about using Creative AWE/SB holes and mount compatible bracket instead of original one? I guess there will be easier to find appropriate donor card to get it Sounds good and reasonable to me ... the current state is probably off by a bit anyways, but yeah, usage common brackets …
