No error messages, It just does nothing when you try to run msconfig. I have not tried the Common Controls update yet, so we'll see. If you google W95a/msconfig you'll find a few people out that ran into the same issue way back when..

I want to keep a vanilla '95a' version as part of the running collection. So it will sit in a corner somewhere while you use a different machine that works better. :lol: Never! haha... Thanks, but I think I already tried that version of msconfig - no dice... I'm not upgrading this particular build to OSR2 either, as I want to keep a vanilla '95a' version as part of the running collection.

Wow, that delay always bugged me too. I have had Systray.exe as the only startup service enabled in msconfig for a long time now. I can't wait to try implanting the 95 version into 98 to see what happens. This is big news on the w98se front 🤣...

In my 486 I have a bare bones Autoexec.bat and Config.sys that loads just the mouse, Himem.sys, EMM386 and sets a few parameters.
