Re: Mig Alley - MFC Application error?

in Windows
Mystery solved: Catalyst 13.4 and 13.8 beta 2 break Mig Alley [at least with my rig/configuration]. 13.1 runs fine. I'm curious to know if the breakage can be tweaked out with a setting or if it's baked into the new driver releases. EDIT: In case anyone follows this, I discovered the cause by …

Re: Mig Alley - MFC Application error?

in Windows
Just to check, I rolled back to an image of my pre-fresh W7 install just to make sure Mig Alley *had* been running before. No dice - hmmm. What probably happened is sometime in the last 6-7 months some combination of of hardware upgrades/drivers/updates/C++/VB etc., broke the game. My game notes …

I just DLd Dependency Walker and need to figure out how to use it - so the answer in no. My install notes indicate I installed Dx90c but I'll try again with the hopes I may have missed it...

Re: Mig Alley - MFC Application error?

No luck so far with runtimes. But it'll run in software mode - might this suggest a video driver issue? EDIT: found a Mig error log in the root drive: File does not exist for reading(8c00=D:\AIR\MIG\landscap\DIR.DIR). File does not exist for reading(7100=D:\AIR\MIG\ir\MIG\text\DIR.DIR). File does …

Yeah I'll give VisualC+ stuff a look. The fresh install has C+ 2005/2008/2010/2012 but nothing earlier. I always install Visual Basics 6 on my retro rigs and will give that a shot to see if it's related. EDIT: Adding VB6 had no effect. Will go through the C+ sequence next since I only have a crisp …

Mig Alley - MFC Application error?

in Windows
I reinstalled W7 sp1 64-bit fresh a few days ago and started testing games. Mig Alley had been running fine before the re-install, but now I receive an MFC Appication Has Failed error loading missions. It boots to the menus, but drops to desktop getting to the action after seeing the loading screen …

Re: Looking for shareware compilation discs. (CD or Floppy)

in Milliways
Where were they found back in the day? I remember cheap compilation CDs being sold at the checkout counter in most computer stores and gaming shops. PC gaming mags that came with CDs sometimes had a special compilation CD insert - I think I still have a few from late 90's PC Gamer/Computer Games, …

Re: My second rig, a Wings no-name

I agree - I have W95 OSR2 going on a P3-933 and it's really very nice... On it go retro games that benefit from the horsepower but don't run or don't run properly under W98, and have come to appreciate the simple charm of W95 as well... The only real drawback so far has been my inability to get a …

Re: windows8

I was so satisfied with XP that I never even gave Vista a moment's look back in the day. Now, I know how critical people were of Vista so a question for the crowd: Is the current discontent with W8 of a similar magnitude? more? less? I was a late adopter of W7 too, moving to it barely 11 months ago …

Front bezel from my first bought-new PC: a Micron P200 MME, along with the AN430TX motherboard and CPU.. A Voodoo 1 bought when it came out, and same for Voodoo 5. And have them all up and running on rigs right now so not museum pieces.. An *exhaustive* collection of combat flight sims, and real …
