The only DIP-28 EEPROMs I have in my bitnare 32 Kbyte, which are supported XTIDE BIOS. I grabbed ide_386l.bin from their website and programmed a Winbond W27E257-12 EEPROM in an external programmer. I don't think I have any 486 which 'needs' parity. It just so happens that my "magic" 64 MB, gold-plated, Samsung 72-pin sticks are parity. I normally have parity disabled because soft resets can spit out an error.

Mine just died while in the case sitting in its usual spot after years of use, and one day I rebooted and tried to boot from the floppy and it was spitting out errors. Perhaps electro-migration killed it.
