lukas12p, if you play around with different graphics cards and use 66 MHz FSB, can you get close to CPU Galaxy's results? 20.8 fps for 180 MHz and 21.6 fps for 200 MHz. What CPU voltage are you using?

What we really need to push the 486 higher is a newly developed upgrade using something smaller than .35micron. The Media GXm uses 0.35 um and it can go up to 300 MHz, so I suspect the transistor gate length, or process size, isn't the only factor limiting the Cyrix 5x86 chips. I think CPU Galaxy's …

Cyrix and IBM didn't have fractional multipliers until the 6x86MX. Even the Cyrix MediaGXm at 300 MHz was still using integer multipliers.

I fired it up, but the system would hang on AWARD BIOS Extension something... Where it would normally list your ISA cards before POST. So there must be some component not happy with the 66 MHz. Also, on this board, the ISA bus runs at a divisor of the PCI clock and there isn't a fixed 7.x MHz option …

The Cyrix 5x86 series did not have any fractional multipliers. If you saw the BIOS screen or some other software say "125 MHz", it was mistaken. Amptron was a US branding for PC Chips. I believe they are one in the same. I don't think any M919 can do 66 MHz reliably. 60 MHz FSB was max if you want …

I was using the 1/2 multiplier, so the PCI bus was running at 41.67 MHz. So most video cards will work. My IBM 5x86c-133/2x system has a Voodoo2 in it normally. Will Voodoo2's run at 66 MHz? I have a vague recollection that they won't, so I would likely need to pull it for 66 MHz PCI tests.

Best I could get using an x1 PCIe card with a Fresco Logic FL1100 chip was: 208 MB/s read 171 MB/s write I tested several PCIe x1 cards with Fresco Logic FL1100, NEC D720201, AsMedia ASM1042A, VIA VL805, & Eltron EJ168A. The cards with the FL1100 consistently benchmark a little faster.
