I'm not sure of the name, but it appears similar to what is on the Matrox G200 MMS card, which has two of those black connectors and contains two cables which break it out into 2 VGA connectors per cable, for a total of 4 VGA connectors.

Keep in mind that those cheap Quadro NVS 400 PCI cards on ebay which appear to have two DVI connectors do not have the standard DVI connectors. They require a special break-out cable. Do you have this cable?

But will be interesting none-the-less. 33 MHz - no more crashes, even with no fan and S3 968 at 62 C. artifacts still present after prolongued playback though. The artifacts can be removed by maximising any window, then minimising it again. 40 MHz - needs fan and case off for no more crashes 40 MHz …

Hypothesis is supported, that is, the system does not hang when using a 33 MHz FSB. To use this at 40 MHz, sufficient airflow may be required. I had no issue at 40 MHz with the case off and a fan blowing at the card. Maybe someone else with one of these cards can share their experience w/40 MHz?

I found curious that your M919 is implementing 1/2 * FSB = PCI, when FSB >= 40mhz. On my M919 v3.4 B/F with the same BIOS date, it would implement a 2/3 * FSB when FSB >= 40mhz. So at 40 MHz, the PCI bus would run at 26.7 MHz, not 20 MHz like on your board.

Mostly just experimental findings, although at one point I came across a document, either a chipset databook or some BIOS writers guide, which contained a table showing the AUTO settings for double-banked cache vs. single-banked and the doubled-banked mode used faster SRAM timings.

cache timings had to be set to 3-1-1-1 (down from 2-1-1-1) for complete stability. That's fairly common for motherboards with single-banked cache and no on-motherboard memory buffers. If the board had doubled-banked 256K instead of single-banked 256K, I bet it would just barely pass with 2-1-1-1.

Unfortunately, I have never used this accelerator card before. User Anonymous Coward has pretty much tested every 286 upgrade known to exist. I think he's your best bet for info.
