In my experience, 55 MHz is max stable for a 5V 486SXL. I'd have liked to see the SXL2 at 80 MHz mainstream as an upgrade path.

Seems like a poster or two mentioned that the 4-pin fans run full speed and loud if you don't have a 4-pin connector. Did I misinterpret something? 1 or 2 degrees, nevermind then. What about adding a peltier pad between the CPU and the heatsink? Anyone have long-term experience with such configuration? What was the temperature differential? I have a 12 V peltier pad somewhere, but last I looked for it, it had completely vanished.

I ended up getting the Zalman CNPS9500A because of the 3-pin fan connector. I've been using ceramique 2. Is there something significantly better I should be using? I'll just not tax my Opty 185 too hard until the new cooler arrives. I suspect a lot of heat problems come from the heatsink not …

Wait... It seems like the newer Freezer 64 Pro's have 4-pin connectors. So this thing is going to run full speed at 20K RPM? Won't that be loud? Anything with 3-pins?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I would just pick up a Zalman CNPS9500 and call it a day. It can handle a huge heat load. Techpowerup did a test with it using an overclocked Pentium 4 561 (115w TDP oc'd to 4.3GHz @ ~180w TDP) and it ran around 65C at max load. Other options would be Thermalright or …

They don't let you run at 6x? My 430TX board runs a K6-III+ at 83.3 x 6 = 500 MHz. Curious, were there any undocumented 100 MHz settings on any 430TX board?

I forgot about this thread for some reason. Phido, so the 87.5 MHz crystals are burning up as well? Are thse the ones from MF Electronics? I remember I also had some 72 MHz crystals that would get pretty darn hot. I wouldn't use them. I wonder if the voltage is wrong or the current flow is too high. …

I think I traced the issue down to an intermittent reset switch, which is surprisingly because the Reset light on the POST card should have lite up. Maybe the issue was something else, we'll see as time goes on. A20 control issue was related to a jumper not being set for DLC CPUs.
