Yeah, but let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet. The pad may come right off after I remove the tape holding it in place. It was also pretty tricky removing the donor pads. The pads are paper thin. It might be easier to use copper tape, however, then you don't get the gold plating.

Unfortunately, I've seen such a variety of pin outs on VRMs that I'd still have to do some measurements to determine the proper pin configuration. I have another 386 board, which uses a 486 chipset, that implemented a DIP VRM what I haven't seen much of.

I just found a motherboard (EXP4349) which specifically mentions support and jumper settings for the PGA-168 version of the SXL2. That's what I figured. I could never get my ARO-1130U2 working properly. It cannot find any hard drives although the MB's onboard SCSI controller works fine.

Great. Hopefully I will get to this in the next few weeks. Need a quality photo of the MB first, so that I can ensure the hardware components are similar. If not, I won't test the BIOS due to risk.

I'd leave EMM386 disabled until the registers are set. I beleive CTCHIP34 is for the Cyrix 5x86 and 6x86. I don't recall there being a MediaGX specific option. From memory, I think I used the 5x86 config file for the MediaGXm. I would refer to the datasheet for determining which registers are being …

Are you able to provide some benchmark results showing configurations with 512 KB vs. 1 MB or 1 MB vs. 2 MB? I cannot imagine there being more than a few percent performance benefit, especially from 1 MB to 2 MB.
