Re: Turok patch for Cyrix 5x86

I have tracked the issue with Turok down to the FP_FAST feature of the Cyrix 5x86. Disable this feature and the game won't crash. I also noticed this issue with Quake 2. These two games don't like FP_FAST for whatever reason. I never had any other issues with FP_FAST in any other game. Interestingly …

Re: Turok patch for Cyrix 5x86

The Cyrix 5x86 literature says that it is x86 and x87 compatible, whatever that means exactly. Turok works with the Am5x86 and the Intel DX4, so it seems to me that the issue is not specific to Pentium instructions. I have also run into cases whereby graphic card drivers have worked with the Am5x86 …

Re: Turok patch for Cyrix 5x86

If I recall, I tested it with D3D using the Matrox G200 and glide using the Voodoo1 and Voodoo2. Same result - hangs. I could try disabling all the Cyrix features to see if it is one in particular, though it could also be none of them. Better if there is a software patch though.

Turok patch for Cyrix 5x86

Does anyone know if there is a Turok patch which lets you use the Cyrix 5x86 CPU? When I run Turok with a Voodoo1 or Voodoo2 and a Cyrix 5x86 CPU, the game ultimately crashes with 5 seconds (branch prediction enabled) of loading or within 20 seconds (branch prediction disabled). It is very …

Re: Voodoo 1 vs. Voodoo 2 on a 486

Ooooo, you have me intrigued, yet at the same time, I don't want to know so that we can maintain the suspense! Another chip which I think very relevant to add would be the Am5x86-150. Mentally, you think it would make for a fast system, but in fact, the wait states at 50 MHz may need to be set to …

Re: Voodoo 1 vs. Voodoo 2 on a 486

I finished the i486 DX4, however I don't feel content. I've decided to make this into a mini high-end socket 3 + accelerated Voodoo comparison. Will be comparing these: IBM 5x86c-133/2x Cyrix 5x86-133/4x Cyrix 5x86-120 with branch prediction Cyrix 5x86-120 Cyrix 5x86-100 with branch prediction …

Re: AGP is a bloody nightmare

I have some Chip-Quik that I've had Packed away for almost 25 years. I forget about it, find it again, then forget about it. Just never seem motivated enough to try it. For the most part, if the IC is dead, it can be cut off. Does it really stay molten long enough to remove and reuse a QFP 200+ pin …
