Perhaps try a different AWE64 to see if it also is overly hot. If two cards have the issue, then perhaps there is an issue with the motherboard, or PSU voltages.

I suspect the BIOS from most PCI 486 motherboards containing UM8881F, UM8886AF, and UM8663AF chipsets will work on your board. I was hoping that someone has specifically tested for this, so I will add it to my ever-expanding list of curiosities to investigate. I suspect the memory use order is that same as DOS 6.22, but I want to be sure.

I also root for the underdog. To me, the slower FPU of Cyrix chips is not so much of an issue when using the MII-400, as the FPU performance of this chip is similar to that of a P233MMX. The slower FPU is also less of an issue when you consider using 3D accelerator cards. It really boils down to …

You'll want to review the specs on the Cyrix 6x86 for how much current it draws and at which voltage. I believe chipdb.org has the spec sheets on the 6x86. I have an AMI one, full-size with VLSI, however it doesn't seem too keen on clock-doubling feature of the DRx2 or SXL2. I need to investigate this further at some point. The 40 MHz SXL, DLC, i386, and AMD 386 work fine though.

The M919 is OKish if you have the COAST module for 256 K cache and are NOT running the FSB at 40 MHz.
