I would definitely install at fan at 120 MHz. Interestingly, I have a stock Cyrix 5x86-120 chip which came with a Cyrix-supplied heatsink without fan. What is DN3D? What graphics card are you using? Based on those tables, I beleive JP 14/13/12 control the FSB. In order of the supplied table (CPU speed setting), they are 25, 33, 40, and 50 MHz. The DOS program CHKCPU should be able to determine the correct FSB and multiplier on GXm chips. Be sure to download the latest version though, as I found some issues with Cyrix 5x86 and GXm chips which the author was able to correct.

If the BIOS can switch the clock from 200 MHz to 180 MHz, then I think it is adjusting the FSB from 33.3 MHz to 30 MHz, with the CPU multiplier remaining fixed at 6x.

I question whether your notebook is really downclocking the CPU. The GXm's I've used and have read about all have a 30 MHz or 33.3 MHz FSB and 175 MHz is not an integer multiple of 30 or 33.3. The GXm only has integer multipliers.

Interesting - it looks like the IBM 5x86-133/2x system with 66 MHz FSB, which as the cache settings set to the slowest (3-2-2-2), are the same as a 40 MHz system with cache settings set to fastest (2-1-1-1). What criteria did you use to determine the system was initially not stable at 3.6 V, then stable at 3.7 V, then again stable at 3.6 V? Personally, I would at least run it at 3.65 V. Also, 512 KB of single-banked cache is not as stable as double-banked cache. If you continue to have odd things …

I have noticed that the G200 in pcpbench at 640x480+ is slower than the Virge cards, but performs well in VGA mode. Not sure why this is. Maybe there is a way to improve it?
