I guess I have always used 10 ns cache (TAG & Data) at 66 MHz, so I did not run into this problem. I did drop my system RAM down from 128 MB to 64 MB so that I can run the system with a 1ws RAM Read time isntead of 2 ws. I wonder if any of your 15 ns cache was defective. Did you try other 15 ns cache? If all your 15 ns cache doesn't work and your 10 ns cache works, then these Asian-sourced chips may indeed be 10 or 12 ns chips instead of relabeled 15 ns chips.

There are only two areas which look like solder pads for 2 DIPS, which I do not understand. If it was for cache expansion, there wouled be 4 DIP solder pads. Those two DIPS may have been for an alternate cache TAG configuration, not for increasing the cache quantity.

Some users hold the ability to install 1024K cache in high regard. This MB is limited to 512K, single-banked.

What else could it be? 5-pins with a 1-pin gap, right next to the keyboard connector. All my experience with these motherboards points to a PS/2 mouse header. There is also a PS/2 mouse capable keyboard controller on this motherboard. Sometimes the PS/2 functionality is not documented.

Thank you for your suggestion to use GCDROM. Unfortunately, GCDROM did not work. I get the following error, Copy code to clipboard 1 NO CD-ROM drive to use; CDROM not loaded! I guess I will have to stick with the onboard IDE controller with PIO-4.
