EDO is not generally reliable on socket 3 platforms. Even boards which support EDO RAM are best off with FPM RAM.

You have an MS-4144? That is a superior board. Why even bother with the HOT-433 when you have an MS-4144? The MS-4144 can be modified to accept a native-mode PS/2 mouse.

Exin, I didn't post my BIOS. I mentioned that the BIOS I posted was posted by someone else and that I have not tested it. I have noticed that some BIOSes don't like to reflash well using certain flashing software brands/versions. It is always best to flash unfamiliar BIOSes with an external writer.

I have a soft spot for those P2/P3-era Dell builds. They were everywhere and have a stereotypical late 90's PC look. A real high point in Dell's history. The stock went from $56/share at its peak to $13/share before going private.

Optimise the motherboard/expansion cards the best you can, get the best looking case, then stick it in your closet to save it as an integral part of computer history. This is what most of us do (I think?).

I have had all kinds of unpredictable problems with the HOT-433 motherboard, and I have met 6 boards face-to-face in the past many years. I was unable to determine exactly what the cause of the seemingly random behaviour was.

It was suggested that enabling fastvid would help the P6 CPUs in comparison to the P5 chips. fastvid was not enabled. Is fastvid only useful for DOS? If so, then having it enabled or not would not alter the GLQuake P5/P6 comparative nature.

OK, thank you for the clarification. I am looking forward to some results which indicate some advantage of using VLB SCSI over VLB IDE when newer HDDs are being used. I figure some benchmark which draws heavily on simultaneous CPU + HDD usage would be beneficial.

Those sound like motherboard BIOS settings, not SCSI BIOS settings.

That particular adapter goes on the HDD side, however you might be able to use a 68-pin (female) to 50-pin (female) on the host controller side. I bought one of these on dealextreme about 2 months ago for approx. $6 shipped. Thanks for the tip! I have a female to female adapter, but I feel stupid …

Raritan... it works well and would be the most elegant solution. Depends on your screen resolution and the particular PS/2 mouse you use. I found the Raritan the worst of the protocal converters. belzrebuth, if you are looking for a brainless and hassle free solution, obtain a working serial mouse.
