A mass auction of 28,000 K6-2+/570 CPUs. That is an odd find. It really makes me wonder which characterisation tests failed at 600 MHz (2.0/3.3 V) causing AMD to drop the rating by 30 MHz.

I know the Cyrix 5x86-133's came out in the 49th week of Dec. 1995, or earlier. The 6x86-133 MHz pieces probably came out mid-1996. I wonfer if Cyrix had issues with their double pipeline design, or perhaps a frequency struggle with branch prediction.

I guess that would depend on which Pentium you were comparing it to. Does anyone know the release date of the 6x86-100 MHz chip in comparison to the 5x86-100 MHz piece? I think the 5x86 - 100 came out around the 30th week of 1995, but I feel the 6x86 - 100 came out much later, perhaps Q4 of 1995.

A pitty AMD didn't release the AMD K6-III (non-plus) using the 0.18 micron scaling. I suppose if the AMD K6-III-450 AFX works reliably at 500 MHz, that is good enough for me. I wonder what is physically different, besides the scaling, between the plus and non-plus chips which causes an Asus P5A-B v1 …

There are those out there who desire an equal balance of nestalgia with gaming, whereby a Slot 1/A may be too modern to satisfy the craving. Tetrium, good point on the voltages. I suppose I'll have to test the stability at 500 MHz for myself. chipdb also indicates there being an AMD K6-III-475.

The old k6-2 core(with no on-die cache) is already capable of 550mhz with 250nm process, but k6-3 can only reach 450mhz despite voltage officially increased from 2.2 to 2.4, hindered by its on-die cache. k6-3+ and k6-2+ are 180nm process, therefore capable of 600mhz with on-die cache, but not much …

Rev 1.04 and before has a bug in the chipset that allows only 128MB to be cached but will work with K6 mobiles (K6-2+ and K6-3+). Rev 1.05 and beyond should cache 256MB (or more if theres 1MB L2 cache on the board) but won't work with the mobiles, so you'll be stuck with K6-2 and K6-3. How do you …

Any reason why you have CPU Burst Write disabled? Is it not stable? What voltage are you running the CPU at? You may have an X5-133 relabelled as a DX4-120 because it failed characterisation at 133 MHz. You might want to run it at 3.6 V if your motherboard has a setting for 3.6 V. The CPUID is odd …

Due to the high price of gold, I think we'll be lucky even to see a Cyrix 6x86 or MII on eBay in 5 years time. My hopes for acquiring an MII-433GP are starting to vanish.

I just tested my AMD DX4-120 using the 2x/4x setting, and it is definately only recognising 2X, not 4X.
