Vetz, if your board is the same as Artex's, it might be helpful to show your cachechk read/write performance with the AMD X5-133 installed using optimal memory and cache timings. His throughput seems abnormally slow.

Does the SP3G have any undocumented jumper settings for the FSB? What are all the possible FSB speeds? And is there an option to halve your PCI bus speed, either via a jumper, or in the BIOS?

Do you have an SRAM tester? Did you try lowering your L2 or main memory timings? Is it only at 40 MHz that you have issues with the L2 cache?

I did do some speed analysis between 3Com 3c905C-TX-M and the Intel Pro 100-something. The data and discussion is on Vogons somewhere. I have never noticed any performance benefit from using EDO memory over FPM on these 486 board. I actually find that FPM is a little more tolerable of faster timings with a 40 MHz FSB.

What is the part number on your memory chips? That seemed to help. Perhaps this board's memory interleaving doesn't work with L2 set to write-back mode. The read/write are still a little slower than the Biostar's and other PCI 486 boards based on the UMC and SiS chipsets. I wonder what is holding it …

The only sure way I know of is to look up the part number on the individual memory chips and find the datasheet. You can usually find it in a few minutes online.
