Nice, a whole 3% performance boost when using 1024K vs. 256K on the ASUS P/I P55SP4 board. Does this board have an undocumented 40 MHz FSB setting, and if so, does it work with the original Cyrix 6x86?

Doesn't Chrome still install its own auto-updater that will merrily update the browser whether you want it or not whenever it happens to feel like it? There is an option to disable this feature. I have disabled it in the past for troubleshooting purposes. I prefer to leave the decision to the user …

The fastest I was able to get a K5-PR166 to run stable at is 120 MHz. This is a whole 3.5 MHz faster than rated. I was able to run the majority of the 686 benchmarks at 125 MHz, but some of the more demanding ones would not complete.

I suspect your L2 timings are too tight for stable operation. Try using the same L2 cache settings, but bring the FSB down to 33 MHz. If W2K installs, then I suspect your L2 cache timings. Set the FSB back to 40 MHz and reinstall W2K with the slowest L2 timings. If W2K installs, speed up your L2 …
