I think some of the upgrades, fixes, user made levels etc. for Unreal are pretty impressive and quite faithful to the original game concept. Yes, it seems to be worth buying only if you need more than a pair (you could get a little discount as well) I originally intended to keep the RAM as spare but I gave it to my brother instead for better use (he actually composed some midi tracks a long time ago)

If the speed issues are resolved then check if you have correctly set up mt32 emulation via aweutil. AFAIK Monkey 1 non-CD versions do not reprogram the MT-32 so you can get very good emulation in theory. Load up the default mt-32 soundfont or a better replacement. There are people around here who have cards like yours (at least the same generation). They can help but they will need the content of your autoexec.bat and probably config.sys files... (Maybe it is just a missing "diagnose /s", maybe sg else etc.)
