It depends on what period you want to play games. If you also want to play 486 system games of that area you would be better off with a 486 DX2 66mhz machine.. ( it is the so called `sweet-spot`) If the period is more the 386 way a slower 486 system would do run fine on those first period 486 games …

I have some boxes here, but i cant count them now. Because they are everywhere now.. If i need to guess, i think i have about 5 - 6 boxes now.. I only buy boxed versions from the games whos made really impact on me.. Other games i just buy them in regular boxes.

If you're going with 1GB of RAM (which will be needed if you want PS3.0 games), you should go with Windows XP. My understanding is that neither 98 nor ME will be out-of-the-box stable with >512MB for various reasons. I don't know if there are 3rd-party hacks/patches to correct or address that issue …
