Re: Voodoo 2 DOS Glide compability matrix

Okay, I got my copy of BLOOD in to my AMD machine and tried your 3DFX patch and I can verify it does indeed crash on "The way of all Flesh" -> Level 2. System specs: AMD Slot-A Athlon @ 800 Mhz Voodoo3 3000 AGP (Omega drivers) Win98se used for testing this, although I might go see if pure-mode dos …

Re: Voodoo 2 DOS Glide compability matrix

That's the dumbest thing I've heard here in awhile. EVERYONE here understands the bullshit that dicking around with old machines and setups can be. Every problem has a solution. Whether or not those solutions are acceptable to you is a personal issue that none of us are qualified to deal with. …

Re: Voodoo 2 DOS Glide compability matrix

If "Restart in MS-DOS" doesn't work, you whould really reinstall Windows. Something is quite wrong there. Windows 98SE and MS-DOS 7.1 works well, but you need to be a little bit more aware of how Windows does things and how it affects DOS. Yes, "Restart in MS-DOS Mode" *should* reboot you to a …

Re: Voodoo 2 DOS Glide compability matrix

1) The game is installing and running even in Win98 command prompt. 2) Sorry, the correct .bat to install 3dfx version is instalfx.bat , not installfx.bat. By the way, version of "Dreams to Reality" in my collection have Fr only windows installer (and Fr error messages, by the way). Is there a …

Re: Voodoo 2 DOS Glide compability matrix

Any info on how to engage 3dfx mode would be nice, then I'll let you know how it works on this platform with a voodoo3. Install the game in DOS with installfx.bat. Run the game in DOS with dreamsfx.exe. Well.. I guess I wasted $0.65 then, I don't have DOS on this machine anymore, just Win98. And …

Re: Voodoo 2 DOS Glide compability matrix

I am sure it was working (on PIII450) as i was trying to figure out reason for blinking text. (too fast cpu btw). Got Dreams to Reality working as well on my 440BX system. Really strange that it crashes on all my Socket 7 systems, but works on this system. I guess it can be updated as running, but …

Re: 3dfx DOS modes

I wouldn't worry about older games on a 440BX machine, surely the main purpose is to play later SVGA DOS games? Yes it is. I have my 66 Mhz 486-Dx2 for playing older games, my 440BX system will be for playing SVGA MS-DOS games fast. Later it will have some sort of voodoo card for it .. later. Some …

I tested real fast on the AMD system (I don't have a proper DOS setup, set-up correctly on the Pentium-III machine, but FastVid appears to work perfectly fine with himem.sys and EMM386 loaded, I don't see any issues or problems with it. That may change when I get stuff set-up and configured on the …

Re: 3dfx DOS modes

Okay well, after you mentioned your results, I pulled out my Pentium-III Slot-1 system based on the i440BX chipset (Also 616 Mhz just like yours.. 550 Mhz Pentium-III Katami, with a minor overclock to 112 Mhz Bus from 100) since you had such good results with yours. I don't have any voodoo hardware …

Re: 3dfx DOS modes

Have you tried enabling Fastvid before running SpeedSys? I just checked with my Voodoo3 AGP and it scores 46,706KB/s without and 248,938KB/s with FV enabled. That is 5.3 times faster! Besides, even the card is fast, is it compatible with all games? This chart says it's not. I haven't tried FastVid, …

Re: 3dfx DOS modes

Why is the PCI Rage II-C faster than the AGP version? :o I don't understand that myself, as it makes no logical sense, but it is. I can photo results from both and show you, but that's the results that came up with SpeedSys. I've tried turning on/off every AGP setting in bios (or heck every …

Oh.. apparently it's on by default and I didn't realize it, some how.. O.o Thanks for that.. fixed all my older posts. Okay so.. I decided to go and spend the majority of yesterday benchmarking all of my video cards I have here, PCI and AGP. A few notes about this before I link to the results. The …

Actually, they do supply alternative renderings of the soundtrack . And I have no idea why you think it would be slower. Just sayin'. One example: I have two laptops here, a 1.0 ghz dual core AMD C-50 based low-end laptop / netbook (produced in spring 2011). I installed my GOG.com version of …

be aware you can also play descent 2 on a modern machine with opengl DXX Rebirth http://www.dxx-rebirth.com/ D2X-XL http://www.descent2.de/d2x.html and descent 1 http://www.descent2.de/d2x-descent1.html That's mostly irrelevant to my situation. Even if I did get that running, the music and sound …

Re: 3dfx DOS modes

Mine uses an S3 chip. I can come up with some dos benchmarks, but none of them benchmark "VESA Speed". The most I can come up with is SysChk that does DOS speed period. Actually, I think SpeedSys does VESA Speed now that I remember.. maybe I need to spend a lot of time today and swap all my cards …

With regard to Descent II, use the Wayback Machine ( http://www.archive.org ) to view Dorsola's/KieferSkunk's Descent II 3dfx FAQ http://www.kieferskunk.net/d2_3dfx_m.htm This page has links to the Descent Network which, unfortunately, no longer work. You can download the latest versions of the …
