Since the Digispeech Port*Able Sound Plus is based on an ESS chip, which, if I'm not mistaken, emulates a soundblaster in hardware, couldn't you just treat it like a soundblaster but instead of using the standard port 220, you use the port for LPT instead? The output is used to transfer midi music to the minidisc md-8x sound system. I think you can use the card as a wavetable directly, outputting the sound through the laptop speakers. Buy it and give it a try!
