I would recommend you just skip the laptop and go for a desktop. However, if you want it to be a laptop, then the Toshiba is definitely the way I'd go. Real OPL3, and 32MB of ram is plenty for Win95 and DOS, although the 96MB would be a lot snappier.

64MB modules are a lot less common then 32MB modules, and you'll need 2 modules for a Pentium board (unless it's one of those very early VIA boards that support 32bit memory bus). Might as well get 4x16MB as those seem to be quite easy to find. At least the 430HX can usually be "tagged" so it …

There's something on ebay right now that's unusual. It's an adapter with USB ports that plugs into an AGP slot. I think swaaye is correct in assuming the cache was halved to save on manufacturing costs. Remember that the CPU cache is a quite large die area. I don't know if a 1.8Ghz Willy is faster then any Coppermine/Tualatin, but it sure eats more power. Personally I think I'd prefer Athlon XP over Netburst …
