It was a Gigabyte 486AM/S, it was in for a few minutes before I realized it. Unfortunately, it got thrown out with some other stuff I got rid of. The motherboard is still in use as my 486DX-4

I had this problem with mine as well, had to remove the scsi card from it, boot the machine, power off, then boot again with the card installed. Could be a PnP resource conflict.

If it doesn't cost more than a few bucks, then sure, go for it. like maddmaxstar said, the performance gain won't dramatic, but it should be noticable.

USB floppy drives work quite well and are usually bootable on modern computers. Performance however seems a little sluggish with my Sony MPF82E-U1

I try to be period specific when it's practical. I have a Pentium 133MHz with 16MB ram, 850MB hard drive and a 2MB S3 Virge DX. By contrast I also have a Pentium 3 650MHz with 384MB of RAM and 2x 80GB HDDs.
