Ok, so it is closer to a PIII in performance. Still, I don't remember a 900 or 1ghz PIII feeling that slow. Maybe the interface to the RAM is using a narrower bus? That, coupled with a really slow 5400 rpm HD on SATA I could account for why it seems so gimpy.

I would have to look and get back to you on that, I don't know off-hand. This was a system meant for POS or industrial/embedded applications, so it isn't a regular desktop motherboard.

I had a 286 that could bust out some serious Wolf 3d and also Dragonstrike, Wing Commander and I'm pretty sure I played Dune on it, although I may have moved onto a 486sx33 by that point. Had some good times with that box. I don't think I had VGA for it until my Jr. or Sr. year of HS, though.

I am fairly certain there would only be, at best, milligrams in a cpu (maybe less). You would need tons of scrap to process in order to recover any appreciable amount.

Gold recovery is nasty. I had to think where I remembered seeing a step-by-step breakdown, I think the conclusion was that for the effort and danger involved the rewards are minimal: http://www.tomshardware.com/picturestory/550-gold-motherboard-chemistry.html I personally would not bother with this.
