Depends on whether your Yamaha card has a wavetable daughterboard. If not, the AWE is better for late DOS because it offers basic GM MIDI through its AWE extensions for many if not all games. Dos boot disk/USB? I'm not sure about Vista, but Shift F10 in windows 7 setup drops you to a command prompt, say at the partition screen, if that works you could run the time command before setup starts installing?
