Re: Roland D-50 soundfont at norCtrack

in Milliways
Luckily I noticed I had downloaded the D-110 recordings onto my computer. Here they are: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/bhleek10xdo7 … erra_D-110_MP3s The Leisure Suit Larry 3 one has a pitch bend issue.

Re: Roland D-50 soundfont at norCtrack

How does the D-550 sound when playing MT-32 games? Does it sound better? I currently own an MT-32 and a CM-64, and used to own a D-550 that I unfortunately sold a few years ago. To my ears, the D-50 or D-550 basically sounds like a much higher quality version of the MT-32. For example, let's …

Re: Soundfont recommendation thread

Another good one is fireball sf, bby Lord Of the Chicken Wings. I personally use that as my primary soundfont. Whoa, that's quite big - almost 400 Mb. How many soundfont makers actually try to make them small too? Mine is 127 Mb (still somewhat large) and sounds much better IMO than almost any …

Re: No CRT Emulation? Why!?

in PC Emulation
https://github.com/libretro/common-shaders/tree/master/crt/crt-royale This may be the most robust and sophisticated CRT shader ever created. The amount of options and settings it sports is nothing short of insane. So I recently tried out the DOSBox core in RetroArch 1.2.2, with the CRT Royale …

Re: Maniac Mansion in Tandy mode

You can hex edit the game to fix the problem: http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=31657#p260253 I got it working fine. On a real Tandy 1000, it is possible to play an unglitched version of Maniac Mansion with Tandy sound : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC8_eS4PA4c&list=UUbAMtlmtT7xVraTETqiNCDw …

Re: GOG.com Removing Several Dozen Titles

in Milliways
I'm careful though since they are using bloody ScummVM in many games. Found out the hard way with 7th guest. A virtual door stopper so to speak :depressed: I take it that the main reason that you dislike ScummVM is that the executables, drivers, etc. have been stripped. I, too dislike when a game …

Re: Torin's Passage and King's Quest 7 Videos

in DOS
I used Ykhwong's build, which has the full core option... I didn't realize it wasn't in the official builds anymore. But yeah, I think the key factor was right speed. Full core, being slow, aparently slowed the setup enough to prevent the speed crash while still being fast enough to allow fullscreen …

Re: Torin's Passage and King's Quest 7 Videos

in DOS
I'll bump this, as I had the same problem with Torin's Passage but found the solution, which I'm posting here for all to see. It involved running the installation setup with core=full, so it wouldn't crash during the video speed test phase. Now the videos are in full screen! The resulting RESOURCE. …

Re: Monkey Island1 CD overriding set flags

Hey, you're one of my subscribers, thanks for that! =D Guess what I'm going to post next =P *reads PM* Ohhhh, so you're VengefulChip, from YouTube! :-D I remember reading that the guys who did the music for the special edition had to transcribe the extra tracks by ear (including all the additional …

Re: Monkey Island1 CD overriding set flags

I've noticed the same behaviour, CD audio still plays even when all relevant sound devices are disabled in DOSBox. But the sound effects do change. You get digitized samples when SoundBlaster is selected, OPL2 effects with AdLib etc. Just the music stays as CD audio. @Robin4: I'm only using this CD …

Re: Monkey Island 1 CD door closing sound

Makes one wonder if this was used as intentional effect, to shave a few bytes off the sound file... I wonder why'd they do that in a CD where you have lots of space... Where exactly can I test this door sound? At what part of the game, hopefully early on without having to play too much :) I always …

Re: Monkey Island 1 CD door closing sound

I've managed to get a cleaner recording from the speakers now. Finally the answer has been revealed to us. No longer shall we live in doubt. Ladies and gentlemen... *drumroll* ...my phone recording must simply have been bad. The sound must've echoed in the room or something. While the sound does …

Re: Monkey Island 1 CD door closing sound

I checked the multi-language CD on all languages. They're all have the same door close sounds. After this very short SOU resource follows the ADL resource. There is no more sample data in the resources. I even checked the Sega version, which also has the same short sample. I wonder, is there a …

Re: Monkey Island 1 CD door closing sound

I notice that the FM (AdLib/OPL2) sound effect for a closing door is something like "Ta-DUMM". Perhaps that has colored your memory. You can get FM sound effects in the CD version with settings of sbtype=none oplmode=opl2, or run MONKEY.EXE with an "a" parameter. Or, more likely, I was somewhat …

Re: Monkey Island 1 CD door closing sound

Which version of Dosbox? Can you try a svn build? Sorry that I forgot to mention, but it was a SVN build that I recorded in, r3841 from EmuCR. But the same issue is in 0.74 and Ykhwong's build. The closing sound, which I assume follows the opening sound, is very brief and barely audible in your …
