I dunno, but if you have 2 threads (base + special), and a CPU with 2 cores, then there is no need to switch the thread to a different core is there?

I can see no reason why it should be slow down any emulation, or any other program. The first question you have to ask yourself is this: In which situation would the the process/thread switch to a different core?

Finally I have heard that CF cards may eventually wear out. Some people claim this doesn't affect CF cards made in the last few years as the technology improved. I don't think it is the bandwidth or any improvement that makes a such a card suitable or not - it is the number of writes to the card …

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too). If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

Whoa! That script is prone to many errors if some of the file names and paths contains blanks etc. And I don't like the [ $var ] test. Better make it explicit with -n. And with the help of some clever variable expansion we can get rid of the tests altogether and the repetitive code: #!/bin/sh …
