Re: Jack Orlando

vbtricks wrote: with a Windows starter [which runs the DOS-version) Sounds like a sure receipe for disaster. Are you forced to use the Windows "starter" (whatever that is) - there is no instructions how to run it with DOS only? How did you install the the game? In Windows or in DOSBox?

Re: What was/were your pre PC machine (or first computer)

in Milliways
I did my first programming on an Commodore PET in 1979 while attending college. My first computer was an Acorn Atom, which I bought in 1981. The display consisted of a little 14" black/white TV. Storage was provided by an ordinary cassette player. The next one, an Amstrad CPC 464, was bought in 1984 …

Re: Can't get mouse working corrctly

I think it is quite simple... 1) Use Notepad to create a file named "RunToucheWithMouseFix.bat" 2) In the BAT-file, enter the commands to start Touche together with mouse2kv. Would that be something like "mouse2kv touche.exe" ??? 3) Create a short-cut to the BAT-file, and use VDMSound to run it. Or …

Re: SoundFX 2000

Same experience here - with VDMSound I got an irritating crackling in Wing Commander III. With SoundFX there was no crackling. There is a thread somewhere with sound samples....

Re: Aladdin

El nostalgico, I am not sure what you are trying to say about the order of the lines in CONFIG.SYS, but FYI here is what Microsoft have to say: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;71705 SUMMARY When loading Microsoft MS-DOS into high memory, DOS=HIGH and DEVICE statements for the …

Re: Space Bucks on Windows XP?

Hi Dave - you suck at the Internet (just kidding) :happyhappy: Or perhaps I was just lucky. I searched for "Space Bucks" and "gerror" and up came this little piece of advice (in German) ( English translation ). The VMDSound thingy (which you can find here at VOGONS) primarily helps with getting …

Re: Christoph Kolumbus

Excellent post, Lago. Lots of details on what you did to get it work, which problems you are still having, and a nice hint about how the switching back momentarily fixes the problem. Unfortunately, I do not have a good answer for you :( Perhaps you can try different scalers (in dosbox.conf), and …

Re: IO Drivers causing problems with VDMSound

Patrick - I am not sure if this will work, but I think you can do this: 1) In AUTOEXEC.NT do the "SET BLASTER=A0" trick. This should prevent the NTVDM SoundBlaster emulation from working. 2) In the VDMSound LaunchPad, go to "Advanced..", then "Troubleshooting" tab. Enable "Diagnostic log" and log …

Power Mac? Dang!! Should I be glad - or should I be sad?

in Milliways
So - Friday evening, on my way home from the job, I passed by my local PC games shop. It was 6.55 PM, just 5 minutes before closing and the owner was just about to close, so I stayed outside and skimmed the edge of the game boxes arrayed in the windows... And there it was: "Wing Command IV - The …

Re: Can't run a clipper program...

Slightly on-topic: The poster did state that the program needed those lines, so DosFreak's answer was correct. The poster did NOT say that the program needed the EFFECT of those lines - in which case Mirek's answer is correct 😀

Re: Aces of the Deep

Check the section on Special Keys in the readme. Look for the keys that will allow you to raise the number of CPU cycles. http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php? … age=SpecialKeys http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php? … eDemandingGames

Re: Daggerfall MIDI music on my laptop

The same applies for the game itself as well: the music plays extremely slowly and its speed seems to depend on unknown factors. Tried increasing the number of CPU cycles in DOSBox? http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=SpecialKeys http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page= …
