Just out of curiosity, what kind of memory footprint does the Samsung driver have? OAKCDROM.SYS takes like 35k and I'm wondering if this is any less.

What happens if you flex the cable near each connector (while it's on)? The wires inside the cable might be broken or loose.. usually you'll see this with a cable that has spent much of its life with a sharp bend in it.

In my experience, Innounp works for the majority of games, but some (like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale) need to be installed with the GOG installers, because they do some kind of voodoo with game files. My anecdote: I've run both an 8800GT and a GTX 285 on the same PCIe 1.1 board (used it for ~4.5 years), and haven't ever noticed a problem. Maybe I missed out on some potential with the GTX 285 by limiting it to 1.1, but it still crunched anything that I threw at it, with no hiccups.
