Re: Bought these games today

in Milliways
Not a game, but retro software. I've been looking for a copy of XTree Gold 3.0 with doco for years and finally found it! I've been using and loving XTree since the early 90's but this is the first non-pirated copy I've owned: http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g330/rjheard/IMG_4605_zpsce0efeed.jpg …

Whenever I dispose of a dead hard drive, I always make sure to crack it open, steal the magnets, and destroy the shit out of everything else. Some people use a drill press for these purposes, I myself like pliers, hammers, and hell even utility knives since I can use them to etch the platters. :D …

@PhaytalError – those demos are amazing, and I love that there’s still such an active community around this machine, what a great piece of hardware. With some encouragement from the friendly folks over at Lemon64 I decided to give the C128 another go. I tried a different AV cable and that sorted out …

"PSU fail" in the C64 context often means that it's sending in too many volts on the 5V line. So I don't mean dead, I mean it's turned killer :dead: Tape head angle? I'm talking about the tape extender on the 1541UII, not the datasette. Fuse inside the PSU you say? I didn't think of that; my PSU …

Re: It's 286 time!

A couple of sound upgrades for the 286. Firstly the PC speaker, which was ear splittingly loud. The answer to that problem was obvious – ear plugs! But not for me – those cheap foam ones from the chemist were the perfect size to plug into each of the 5 holes inside the case which were allowing the …

Tumultuous times here in C64 land. My 1541Ultimate II showed up after ~4 months; an amazing piece of hardware created by a German hobbyist which does several things, but most significantly it emulates a Commodore floppy and tape drive to allow you to load programs off an SD or USB stick. Pics below. …

Re: Rude/strange Ebay sellers?

That sucks, it's really not that hard to pack things properly, and to demand you pay to return it - that's crap. I've had a bad run lately, a mega drive game describes as "like new" was dirty, cracked, and the manual held together with sticky tape. The seller didn't respond to messages, nor the …

I don't think hardware is as interesting these days. It's easy to get, snaps together like lego and - I'm a little out of the loop I admit - but it doesn't seem to be "this new product breaths fire and will blow your mind" anymore, it's "this new product is 30% more energy efficient and can render …
