The Vortexes have a working wavetable header in real DOS and / or soundfonts in a DOSbox, so the awful FM isn’t a big deal for later DOS games with GM support.

Yes I've had trouble fitting a Voodoo with a Millennium - one of them will hit the cooler on both of my Socket 7 machines. The Mystique is shorter and just fits.

We hosted the family Easter lunch here yesterday, which consisted of a pumped leg of lamb (roasted on the BBQ) a roast chicken (also BBQed), 2 green salads, roast potatoes, and a quiche. Drinking a locally made pacific pale ale, red wine, and Aperol spritz.

OK, do you know that SB16 standard is not fully compatible with SB/SBpro standard? In some games if sound engine can't play through WAVE channel it plays through FM (like Prince), in some games a portion of sounds is just absent. For example in Mortal Kombat you can't hear "Fight!" and fighters …

That PAS is a beast, look at those epic caps! I get confused about what the original PAS can do - I'm under the impression that the PAS16 isn't compatible with it? Great card to have in the collection.

Prince of Persia is FM only from memory so you can’t change that - the AWE64s have an OPL3 clone that sounds a bit different to the original. You can apply reverb, etc to it tho and it can sound pretty cool so perhaps have a play with those options.

What are you selecting for music in games setup programs? General Midi is the ticket, or Sound Canvas. Start with something like DOOM - easy to set up and very obvious when you’ve done it right. EDIT: sorry I didn’t read jesolos reply properly, he already stated that and more 😵
