I don't know anything about VIA SATA controllers but if you had bought a Silicon Image chipset, you could have flashed it to a non-raid bios. Then it would simple "work" without drivers.

I found this awesome little bugger at a thrift store. It's branded only "CMS". I think having a 5.25" drive external would be ideal since I so rarely ever need to use it. Is there a generic driver for something like this?

I ordered two of these recently for my AWE 64 GOLDs and they arrived just fine. I wasn't sure if the guy was still around as the site is almost 15 years old; but he's still selling! http://simmconn.tripod.com They work great and recognize the 32MB SIMMs I popped in.

That's a REALLY big case. 😳 I think he could search of a "full atx" tower. But I don't know if the mounting is different for E-ATX compared to standard ATX. He would have to consult the specifications for the case itself.

Yarr. Found a shop in Ohio with a D-110.. He also says he just sold an old midi card with breakout box probably for the original MPU-401 a week before. First sales person EVER to know what an ISA card is. He said it- not me! Negotiating with DonutKing on Amibay, of course. Shipping from AU to the US …

According to this list, the TBM does not support DOS and does not have an MPU-401 compatible interface. FYI for anyone else researching this in the future: http://www.hot.ee/soundcard/teh/Soundcards.txt I'll keep an eye out for the Creative WaveBlaster daughter cards.

Alright.. let me try this again. :) I believe the Multisound supports intelligent mode so if I hook it up to an MT-32 I would get MT-32 support. However, because the Multisound is NOT GM compatible, even if I hook up a GM module to the Multisound via MPU-401, I will not be able to play GM sounds, …

So from my research, the Turtle Beach Multisound Classic has an "Emu Proteus" synthesizer. I also read than Creative ended up buying EMU. So is this synth the same one found on later Creative boards or does the Multisound have a distinct midi sound to it?

Now that I think about it, I admit that it would indeed be fun to try but regrettably I have non to test. I assume that it would become limited by the ISA bus at some point.

I've only ever put a sound card into the ISA slots. What would be the benefit of an ISA video card over PCI/AGP?

I had an absolutely horrific experience with an MSI dual-p3 motherboard back in the day. I do not recall the exact board but it was a VIA chipset, the board was not Tualatin compatible, and it only supported up to 933Mhz. I have no fond memories of this board as it gave nothing but blue screens ( …

If you want an ISA slot, I think it will be easier to try and pair a Slot1 to Tualatin slocket with a supporting board.

last one with REAL OPL chip, so better than most SB16. When you say the "last one", are you referring to the OPL1 chip? Some of the AWE32 boards have an OPL3 on them.
