get a GTS or a Ultra, they're quite cheap and "pwn" everything from that period (talking about speed & general IQ- not AA) besides the original Radeon, which catches up with it at 32bpp color modes

Some chipsets do something with PCI that causes quirks with Aureal drivers. nForce2 and i815 come to mind (from personal experience). I'm sure other chipsets too.
