Re: Disk Imaging

in DOS
You might want to try this: http://www.winimage.com/ It creates raw disk images that are inherently readable by just about anything (anything that can read standard floppies). However, you'll probably either have to write them back on to floppy in order to use them or find a second program to mount …

Re: Duke Nukem 3d

I have a couple more questions: Is there a way to make SBDyn load a specific set at startup? I put it into my startup group but it starts up with a blank set meaning I have to add the Fluid fonts or load the set I created manually where I would prefer to just set it and forget it. Secondly, I'm …

Re: Virtual PC 5 oddity

in PC Emulation
*sigh* 5.1 still exhibits the funky keyboard locking behaviour with TV... Anyone have any sensible short term solutions on alleviating this while I work toward getting a new video card? I've noticed that is doesn't happen while running TV in a DOS window under Win95 but that isn't really an option …

Re: GLDuke

I downloaded that eDuke (OpenGL isn't all that important to me) but then I discovered it only works with Duke3D v1.5 (Atomic Edition) and I only have 1.3d...

Re: Duke Nukem 3d

OK, now I have the SoundFonts uncompressed and loaded into SBDyn all I can say is this: O. M. G. 😮 I never knew MIDI could sound that good.

Re: Duke Nukem 3d

in DOS
Alright, after a bit more wrangling with the Add Hardware Wizard I finally got the SBDyn! driver installed but now I have another problem: I can't load the the Fluid soundfont into SPDyn! because they have the extension SfArk and SBDyn is looking for files with the extension SF2. I even tried …

Re: Blood and Real DOS ;)

in DOS
My SBLive used to work fine in Win98 'real' DOS. That was with the Liveware 2 (I think) package that came on the CD I got with it. The Liveware 3 upgrade used to kill it stone cold dead so what I used to do was install LW2, backup the DOSDrv folder, install LW3 and then restore the DOSDrv folder. It …

Re: Duke Nukem 3d

in DOS
I've struck a problem... I'm trying to install the SBDyn driver and I tell it to use the OEMSetup.inf provided with SBDyn and it keeps telling me that "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware" wtf?

Re: DVD Games, where art thou?

in Windows
That is an oddball. I presume the only "enchancements" were that it fit on one disc and had MPEG2 cutscenes? Nah, the cutscenes would have stayed in Interplays proprietary MVE format. I think high-res versions of some of the textures are included (but not installed) on the FS1 DVD but I'm not sure, …

Re: Duke Nukem 3d

Whether you selected General MIDI or AWE32 the information was routed through the same wavetable synth the GM options were there for games that didn't support the AWE out of the box (and quite a few didn't). The fact that my SBLive's MIDI synth doesn't sound as good as the AWE probably has a lot to …

Re: Duke Nukem 3d

Thinking back to when I had my AWE64 (which was just a half length AWE32 minus the SIMM slots for memory expansion. In order to activate the extra 32 channels, you had to run the software wavetable synth that came with it which wouldn't install on non-Intel CPUs including the Cyrix I had at the time …

Re: Virtual PC 5 oddity

in PC Emulation
heh, no, I'm not offering to pay for it... I know 8-bit paletted textures work fine on my GF3Ti500. (FFVIII uses 8-bit palletted textures.) However, it doesn't appear that TV actually works in Windows 2000. I'm not sure if it ever did. The 3D Realms logo appears, and then nothing. *sigh* That's …

Re: VESA Testing Thread - Work Vesa Work!

I just checked and that works too. It's a little slow and has a refresh of 60Hz (I think I get 100 at 1024x768 which makes me thinks its more my monitor than Windows) but the game runs. I tried 1600x1200 as well and got the same results.

nVidia cards cannot go past 640x480 using NOLFB in BUILD engine games. Dunno whats up with your GF4 but my TNT1 goes past 640x480 in BUILD engine games just fine (well, in Duke3D at least...). I had Duke3D up to about 1024x768 (confirmed by my monitors on-screen display) with NOLFB but I was forced …

Re: A quick Mac question...

heh, when the Mac guys emailed it to me the resource and data forks would always get jacked up: http://www.netwerkin.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.c … t=000345#000000 Actually, reading that thread again has given me some ideas that I'd long forgotten...

Re: Virtual PC 5 oddity

Heh...um, well, here's a suggestion: buy a new video card, for god's sake! Seriously. Get a GF3Ti500 for 0. GF3Ti200 for, like, . (Cheap!) I got mine for somewhere around the lines of 0. Well, I didn't, but my dad did. :P (I'm so spoiled, teehee.) We're talking about old games running on NEW …
