Have you tried the FDISK /MBR command on it? I've had to do this a number of times with various CF cards before they would boot successfully through to a DOS prompt.

Just a quick update.. Got the Asus PCI/I-486SP3G loaded up with RAM - all slots in use for a total of 32MB. After removing the sticker on the BIOS chip, I don't see a UV window so I'll try to flash it to the latest 1999 BIOS this evening. If it doesn't work, I'll need to burn a new a new chip and go …

Where do I find this S-number? Mine is a GB3910P Rev A 1996, with GB3920P 1997 daughterboard. I believe the S# is just the part number. Since yours has the 'daughterboard' it's the older model S3316 - dual plane as they called it. The newer versions are single plane (aka no daughterboard). 3DFX …

It really depends on which BIOS ROM that was used. For any one model of 486 board, the makers could have used an EEPROM or an EPROM. The surest way to determine this is to a) look at the jumpers on the motherboard to see if it is set for EEPROM or EPROM, or b) look at the part number on the BIOS …
