No worse than anything else 🤣 @ sliderider. I like the concept but the noise and general maintenance is horrendous, I like that it doesn't loop(recycle) to much of the air as badly as for example some of the typical dual fan "windforce" designs.

To me the newest that any thing I would consider "retro" is up to 939/478 using DDR1. Well I have seen most of these on eBay but that was years ago and did see one MII-433GP but that was back in like 05 or 06.

Not exactly retro yet but got a Toshiba portege m400 for $27 today and it posts. Last week I got lucky on a decent Thermaltake armor case for $45.

You won't need much to push a PM, I did 2.5ghz on stock volts and for 2.8 you might only need 1.5v tops if the cooling is good. A PM can handle more powerful cards to my surprise but with your rig and very good ram you could drop the mult then push the fsb to the moon.

The 4500 agp is straight forward as there is empty pads but all the rest of the VSA era cards have to use double density memory in order to be upgraded. The extra wires are for the hard strapping (timings) so that the higher density memory works correctly. The 4500 agp is the only one besides the V1 …

Did you check to make sure that nothing broke off during the modding? I always put my cards in the freezer before trying to break the old epoxy. Chances are that there might be a crack somewhere and I did ruin a Banshee in the same way as your 4500. As for the card you can always get another 4500 …

You don't have to worry about youtube at all if you are using a dx10 or newer era card as the card handles the workload for flash (hardware acceleration). As for that v-mod I have seen it before but I am not hot about using a PM with an agp card. I did find one post about using a wire in the socket …

I know that this thread has kinda moved on but just get a G4 Ti or a cheap 5900 if one turns up and use modified drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ if you are running xp. I wouldn't bother with Vista/7 due to all the usual reasons.

In day to day tasks and gaming a PM is heads and shoulders above any C or E series. Had a e-350 and hated for that fact that it only had single channel memory controller and a needy IGP. You need to wait when it comes to the gpu as prices are likely to drop over the next month or two. The rest of the system is decent and should last a long time.

I think that part of the problem was that many of the best games were only for Pal and not NTSC which hurt support a lot, the other might be cost and that the pc was catching on at the time.

I am trying to be optimistic that they are only for the fan or something else that isn't critical but if bricked at lest the pcb can be used as a donor many years from now.
