Yes, it's an important security measure of Newer Windows than XP to make the root of C read only. And an important security measure of Dosbox not to mount the root of C.

It depends on your mount command AND on your host OS -> maybe the folder you mounted as C (or D?) does not have the correct rights to save to.

Sure on a real Dos machine it might help having ling file names for sorting stuff. But in a Dos emulator that runs in 99.99999% of the times on a host that has long file names support - what does that accomplish? Everything you do through the emulator for file sorting can be much easier done …

Dosbox is a modern program, it actually works best with USB Joysticks *if* the host OS has them working. So, it should work if it works for other games on Linux.

the problem is 64bit. Your Dosbox is build as 64bit and I guess you are using the 0.74 version of DOSBox. There are three things you can do: - In Dosbox before running anything, enter "core normal". There were more times that you needed to buy the game again for another platform than owing it once made it okay to play it on others. If the Mac version didn't come with the PC version this is probably such a case...
