Re: Messed up graphics with Radeon

in DOS
Yeah, I got the same problem in w98. VESA works only in w2k/wXP or pure DOS. Perhaps an old display driver would fix it. ATI doesn't support DOS or VESA; I mailed a bug report but never got reply.

Now that was fast!

in DOS
Last night Harekiet added mpu-401 support in dosbox (latest CVS) and all the three games mentioned seem to work great, with music.

Re: Old Dynamix games in windows XP

in DOS
One of the reasons why I am interested in these is the MT-32 support, so other platforms or dosbox doesn't help here, atleast until dosbox starts supporting MPU-401 emulation. Well thanks for help. I guess I'l just wait until dosbox becomes the solution.

Old Dynamix games in windows XP

in DOS
I have zero luck getting Heart Of China, Rise Of Dragon or Willy Beamish to run under WXP. The games transmit SysEx to MT-32 and then just quit. Without roland support enabled the games quit immediately upon launch. Anyone have got these to work?

Dos 6.x Bochs Image

in DOS
Anyone have such a thing? And also the necassary files to run it. I'd hate to go through the trouble of setting up such thing in bochs as doing it with Virtual PC was laborious enough.

Re: Star Control 1 with speedset

This seems to be a problem with every game I try to run with speedset, even 0.1 gives too fast gameplay. Example here is Space Quest IV, that I'm trying to run with MT-32. It's ~ 20% too slow running as normal and with speedset 0.1 it's way too fast.

Star Control 1 & Sierra adventures with speedset

As speedset is Vladr's tool I post this here at Vdmsound forums. Running Star Control 1 without speedset gives about 50% too slow gameplay. Running Star Control 1 with speedset with value "0.1" gives about 40-50% too fast gameplay. So will speedset in future allow more accurate speeding up?

Re: Radeon, Vesa and Windows XP

in DOS
During a unhealthy long session of System Shock it only crashed once for me to the desktop. The crash wasn't related to any specific action.

Re: System Shock and Memory

in DOS
I want to thank Mok, I'v had great time with this classic! .. and I want to point out that the original .exe didn't give the two errors about com ports 😉

Re: Radeon, Vesa and Windows XP

in DOS
Apparently Vesa 3.0 introduced standard refresh rate control so i's 60Hz for Radeon users unless someone write card specific control.

Re: Radeon, Vesa and Windows XP

in DOS
Unfortunately all HZ tools there require Vesa 3.0, and radeon family has only 2.0. I wonder how big the difference is between the two. EDIT: With bios flash 85Hz for standard vesa modes is possible.

Re: Radeon, Vesa and Windows XP

in DOS
I apparently fixed the crashing problem with System Shock and X-com by unplugging my ET6000 videoboard. Microsoft dropped driver support to it from w2k->wxp so there wasn't much gain with having it anyway. One last problem remains regarding VESA, refresh rate. Is there tool to alter VESA 2.0 refresh …

Radeon, Vesa and Windows XP

in DOS
Discworld 2: Works great Fantasy General: Works great after nolfb.com patch. System Shock CD, Mok's exe: Works great X-com 3 Apocalypse: -don't know yet if crashing is fixed- Wing Commander 3: Works, some joystick problems Privateer 2: Works, after using slowdown utility. Also I might add that …

Re: System Shock and Memory

in DOS
Comparing SS1 to SS2 is kinda absurd, but I'm going to do it too. There are several advantages in SS1 over SS2. I separed my statements so you can more easily try to disprove them. Good luck. 1. The movement system, different to todays 3D games is actually more realistic in the way it works. You can …

Re: System Shock and Memory

in DOS
Forgot to mention that it worked without Sapucdex or NoLFB. ATI card here. Mouse is slow in VESA, but there are several dos tools to fix that.

Re: System Shock and Memory

in DOS
It works, but there is little problem with it: Upon startup it gives two CLOSE or IGNORE errors about COM1 and COM2 port. I have serial ports disabled in bios. I would also like to know how did you detect the problem and especially what steps you took to fix it.
